Dr. McDermott, Jr. has been with AA Urology since he completed his training and sees patients in both the Annapolis and Glen Burnie offices.
Dr. McDermott, Jr. grew up in Annapolis and earned his undergraduate degree in Biology at Washington and Lee University and attended medical school at The University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He completed his internship in general surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School and completed his surgical residency at the Harvard Program in Urology. During his 5 years in Boston, Dr. McDermott received extensive training in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and is the former Co-Director of Robotic Surgery and current Chief of Urology at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery for prostate cancer, kidney cancer, adrenal disorders, and reconstruction of the urinary tract. He operates at both AAMC and BWMC where he utilizes the latest generation, DaVinci Xi surgical robot, for the care of his patients. In addition, Dr. McDermott, Jr. has a particular interest in stone disease and BPH. A primary concern in Dr. McDermott’s practice is offering patients minimally invasive surgical options to preserve quality of life and help accelerate patients’ recovery.
Outside of work Dr. McDermott, Jr. likes to be on the water as much as possible and is active in medical missions to the African nation of Cape Verde through Project Health CV. Supporting Health & Education | Project Health CV Inc.
