Dr. Zhou is a Maryland native and attended the University of Maryland, College Park for his undergraduate education. He was an annual Dean’s Scholar and was a graduate of the Honors Program and won several awards during his time there, including the Honors Best Project Award. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology, he worked as a research scientist at the NIH. He then attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD and obtained his medical degree. Dr. Zhou completed his general surgery and Urologic surgery residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
During residency, Dr. Zhou presented research at various regional and international meetings and was the winner of the Best Presentation Award at the World Congress of Endourology. He then completed a fellowship year in Robotic Surgery and Endourology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. While there, he refined his robotic surgical techniques as well as procedures for complex kidney stones.
His specialties include robotic surgeries for both benign and malignant disease of the prostate, bladder, kidney, ureter, and adrenal gland. He also specializes in performing minimally invasive procedures for large kidney stones such as tubeless PCNL, and mini-PCNL.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and cooking.
